Notes:
I originally thought this was Gymnopilus liquiritiae, but it wasn’t growing directly on wood and as found in late Winter. So, I’m stumped.
Found in mixed hardwood woods. Growing on ground near rotting branch.
Cap 2-3 cm orange-brown fading yellow on the edges
Stalk 4-5 cm approx .5 cm thick
Spore print orange / brown
Gills attached, thick and distant
No visible sack, vail or ring
Odor was mild and not distinctive
Taste was mild and not bitter at all
I had no further way to test or observe when found.
