Observation 362700: Metuloidea G. Cunn.

Notes:
MICROSCOPY & ID BY DJANGO GROOTMYERS
Causing a white rot on a fallen, corticate Liquidambar styraciflua branch. Texture of basidiocarps corky. Context brown, turning darker brown with 1M KOH. Strong sweet odor. Taste similar to the odor but also somewhat bitter. All structures inamyloid. Dimitic with thick-walled, clamped generative hyphae. Encrusted skeletocystidia present at the dissipiment edges. Fusoid cystidioles present among the basidia. “True” cystidia originating from the generative hyphae and with dimensions differing significantly from the basidia absent. Spores smooth and thin-walled. Spore measurements: (3.7) 3.8 – 5.2 (6) × (3.5) 3.7 – 4.8 (5.6) µm, Q = 1 – 1.1 (1.2); N = 12, Me = 4.6 × 4.3 µm; Qe = 1.1
