After of staring too much at these Neoboleti, they begin to look the same even if they are not. I agree this one does look different from 367936. Maybe it was the coniferous habitat that made me think they were the same. Yet, I still remember that close relative of subvelutipes here in the northeast that has such a variable look as to indicate different species. It fooled me so many times because I sequenced something like 6 collections and most of them for 2 loci. Money well spent for sure, and still no name. :-/
Okay, I have 340816, but it missed the last shipment from 2018. Will submit this fall, God willing. Sure, I will take 367944 just in case, no problem with having duplicate vouchers. Thanks for collecting!
I’ve considered that possibility, but the difference in cap morphology – the red color and tomentose surface, in particular – makes me think they’re different. If I look hard enough at any of these Neoboletus red mouths, I can make them seem the same, however.
