Cap/upper_surface: Largest bracket, 7-8 cm across; semi-circular to kidney shaped; slightly depressed in the center. Young caps matte; exhibit concentric zones of purplish browns, margin bright white. After two weeks, caps exhibit purplish black, semi-laccate surfaces with zonal textures; white margins barely visible.
Cap/underside: Light pink-purple; pores 7-8 pores/mm.
