Photographed at the town farmers’ market. Only one person was selling edulis, while everybody else had only chanterelles.
Lithuania had another tough summer for fungi, even though it wasn’t s nearly as bad as last year, with all the heat and drought. Still, precipitation was spotty and not plentiful enough in the first two months of the season. Druskininkai received just 1.3" of rain in the first two week of August. However, I was finding only saprobes and a few russulas in the aftermath of this precipitation (14th—>19th), and the first substantial mycorrhizals didn’t start showing up till the 20th. Then the area got another 1"+ of rain early on the 21st (just two days prior to my departure!), and I finally started finding “real mushrooms” the following day. Yet, no edulis or chanterelles for me, and I looked hard.
