Alan Rockefeller who commented above specializes in mushroom taxonomy.
I’ve not come across Gyromitra species in Australia nor have I come across any records on the internet for Gyromitra in Australia. If they are here, certainly not common.

Is this really a morel? Looks a bit like the false morel I’ve seen pictures of. Is inside hollow?
