C. borealis or C. virgineus

Thanks for comment and vote on this mushroom. I agree completely that the match with the Canadian mushroom is the closest match – I’m not convinced that that one is the real C. borealis? It is the only one in GenBank by that name – but there are another 7 going by the name of Camarophyllus borealis.

The Camarophyllus have at least several that match up together – while the single Cuphophyllus borealis matches closest to only European C. virgineus.

To make it more confusing; Bessette etal suggest C. borealis and C. vigineus are the same species. The DNA of this guy – although a bit messy – might suggest that is the case.

Thank you……..and maybe one more.

The Chromosera that you sequenced for Debbie has a bad MO number in GenBank. The GenBank number is MH429982. These might be getting more peaks at coming up.

Fixed!

I contacted Rob Powers about KM403385, he has fixed similar errors in the past relatively quickly.

………it Looks as if the one C. virgineus in GenBank from Michigan is misidentified. Blast reveals it to be a Parasola. Likely P. leuocephala.

It’s in the queue

C. virgineus is European, eastern USA species are different, as are western species going under this name. Would be a good one to sequence.
