Leccinum insigne
Hubachek Wilderness Research Center (Ely, MN)

- Ecology: In mixed woods, heavily conifer. Was found in middle of trail growing from dried liverwort/lichen.
- Cap: 60 mm. Convex. Light brown/brownsh-gray. Smooth, but slightly cracked appearance from direct sun. Flesh=creme/off-white but dying violet.
- Pore surface: Slight depression where pores meet stem. Cream/off-white/tan (bruising darker). 2-3 pores per mm.
- Stem: Off white/tan. With black scabbers. 40 mm width. 25 mm width.
- Spore print: bown with hint of yellow.
