In lawn. Cap ~8 cm, stem ~8 × 2 cm. Skirt-like annulus. Distinct rufescent stain when cut, esp. in flesh just above gills. Mostly K- except weak K+y/o on cuticle. Spores 6-8 × 5-6 um. Full notes here. This mushroom defies my attempts to ID.

Agaricus bernardii?

That’s the common red-staining lawn Agaricus in southern California. It has a distinctive briny odor. My next door neighbor’s lawn has a fairy ring fruiting this week. I’ll upload some images over the weekend.
