We also get persicina in the NJ Pine Barrens, but it’s not a common taxon. The species’ range extends to southern NY, I think. Occasionally, we get some weird ones that don’t look either like persicina or var. guessowii. Someone actually sent me a picture of a mystery NJ stirps muscaria from last year, so I will try to get permission to post it on MO.

Thanks for your input. It was a stunningly beautiful red orange color. A young specimen nearby had almost no warts.
