Observation 44080: Coprinus Pers.

When: 2010-04-10

Collection location: Edgewood, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Arend Thomas (arend)

No specimen available

Sorry that the photo is not better: I found several of these at 3500’ elevation growing at the base of mountain mahogany that was killed in a fire about 5 years ago. The cap is more brownish than it appears in the photos. Spore print is very dark brown, almost black. No discernible ring. Looks like an inky cap although it doesn’t dissolve completely. Perhaps a Mica Cap – coprinus micaceus?
