at least some of the look-alike possibilities by taste. Some gray Trichs are bitter, like T. virgatum for instance.

Thanks, Dave, for the extra details to look for. I do remember seeing a yellow tint and returned to the photos to see if it showed it. I think it can be seen zoomed in. I didn’t know to look for 2-3 needles, but went back to the photo and don’t see any with more than three. I do appreciate the input. I’m no authority in this.

often features a yellow sheen on areas of the otherwise starkly white gills. Cap is often radially/innately streaked. There are other species of gray Tricholoma mushrooms that could be confused with T. poretntosum, which is most often found under 2-3 needle pines.
