Observation 4454: Psathyrella candolleana (Fr.) Maire

When: 2007-10-19

Collection location: Menlo Park, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)

Specimen available

Notes:
Boy, just saw one on Thursday, and then yesterday, they were everywhere, hundreds popped up in the grass. Features to note, the gills are pallid at first, but soon turn a deep dark brown, and when really young you can see bits of veil matterial at the edges of the caps. Very fragile stipes.

I’ve dried a few, and I’ll try to get shots of the spores on Monday.
