On HCL- shale cobbles. Thallus of brown dispersed areoles, some becoming slightly subsquamulose. Dark brown in full sun, greenish in shade side. Cortex and medulla C-, cortex paraplectenchymatous. Algal layer continuous. Apothecia 1(2) per areole, deeply immersed, without a parathecial ring but having a thalline collar somewhat raised, disk concave, epruinose, dark reddish brown to nearly black. Epihymenium reddish in thick sections, light orange in thin ones. Hymenium hyaline, ~150µm tall including epihymenium. Paraphyses long and thin, scarcely widened at tip, not branched.

Spores large, simple, hyaline, ellipsoid (egg shaped), estimated 30-40 per ascus. Average size: 12.7×6.5 (n=6).

Really similar, which is awesome, since so many lichens look so different regionally. I’m sending another box to Kerry and will include this.
