However, MO uses real scientific (latinized) names. If you don’t know the real scientific name, simply leave the What field blank. (MO will automatically fill in “Fungi”.) Even better, take a few seconds to try to find the scientific name, for instance by web search.
Please don’t use common names or make up other names (e.g., “Tree Things, IDK”). That creates more work for other users and the admins. (And the made-up or common Name will likely disappear, so you can’t rely on it to find an Observation.)
Using scientific names improves the quality, and searchability of MO Observations. If you follow the practice of using scientific names, it will become easier for you.
