Observation 45045: Amanita ameripanthera Tulloss nom. prov.

When: 2010-05-01

Collection location: Junction City, Trinity Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: RW Rockwell (Fungal Cowboy)

No specimen available

Emerged within two feet of the Amanita calyptroderma described in my previous observation, within several days of one another. Clearly different species. But one might wish to know if the two species intergrade if one were to choose to consume the purported Spring coccora!

I like this image because of the state of the veil, as it begins to separate from the cap.
A better shot of the veil separating from the cap and gills in this immature fruiting body, with my hand for size comparison.
