Observation 4515: Lacrymaria Pat.

When: 2007-10-21

Collection location: Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Debbie Drechsler (debdrex)

No specimen available

10/31/07: Found these fruiting again and got a fresher sample. According to Darvin’s notes in Observation 4533 these would be Psathyrella echiniceps rather than L. lacrymabunda because the fibrils are dark brown (see Image 7544), so I’ve changed the ID on this one.

Fruiting under Magnolia and Gingko in a cultivated area. I believe these were a darkish tan when first found but, alas, no camera and no notes. Spores are dark purplish brown, almost black. Note fibrillose pileus, veil remnants. The dark specimens in Images 7343 & 7344 were found in a rather dried out condition, but after overnight storage in a moist, cool environment reconstituted, although with a much darker color. The dessicated specimens were photographed 10/25/07.
