Found during a foray sponsored by the Los Angeles Mycological Society. I had no idea what this was when I first saw it during the foray. It looked a bit like Tricholomopsis rutilans, but that didn’t seem right. Greg Wright happened to be on the foray and suggested I look at Calocybe onychina. There is a brief note in Arora’s Mushrooms Demystified (2nd Ed.) about this species which seems to fit so I’ve gone with that id. I did not have a chance to look for sideroophilous granules to confirm that it was Calocybe.
