atypical for xerula

These are clearly Xerula, but the wavy caps and shout fat stems are unusual for that genus. These are by far the meatiest Xerulas I’ve encountered.

of Hygrophorus, I realized I should have left it up. I believe in the value of archiving our mistakes.

I agree with Walt’s proposal of Xerula – made clear by additional photos showing the elongating rooting stem. But for the record, that first photo suggested Hygrophorus to me.
