Observation 45961: Clitopilus nitellinus (Fr.) Noordel. & Co-David

When: 2010-05-21

Collection location: Yosemite National Park, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Ron Pastorino (Ronpast)

Specimen available

These were found growing on the ground or old woody debris in the woods.
The caps were small, up to 2.8 cm across and not viscid.
The spore print was sparse but appeared to have a pinkish or reddish element.
The spores were approx. 7.8-10.1 X 5.9-7.0 microns and appeared to be somewhat lumpy/angular.
Rhodocybe nitellina seems reasonable but my spore measurements were larger than what I found in references(MykoWeb).

I think you’re on the right track if you put this in the nitellina cluster. There’s a handful of european species/forms in that group, and I suspect that you have others in California, described or undescribed..?
