Environment: sandy soil, on rocky bank of a large creek in Rock Creek Park, DC.
Cap: Red/magenta, dry
Cap flesh: pale, not staining, firm in younger mushrooms, soft and pillowy in older
Pores: seem to start yellow, become red, then open up to yellow inside creating orange color. Staining dark blue and fading to brown.
Stem: high yellow with red reticulation at the apex, becoming red/magenta below, staining blue to brown with handling. Red/magenta larval tunnels.
Basal mycelium: white
Odor: pleasant, earthy, buttery
