Observation 467572: Leccinum sect. Scabra

When: 2021-08-15

Collection location: Pinchot State Forest, Thornhurst Twp., Lackawanna Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

(coordinates hidden from public) 542m

Who: I. G. Safonov (IGSafonov)

Specimen available

Notes:
Found while foraying together with Dave W, who posted it earlier as obs 466091. This sole post-mature fruitbody in excellent shape was growing near birch and hemlock in very wet sphagnum moss along a water-filled trench running along a forest road. The flesh was somewhat waterlogged.
Preserved by DW. Despite the dark cap I suspect L. holopus. Will probably get it sequenced eventually.
