Specimen available

Found in a hardwood dominated forest with some coniferous trees. The specimens were found on a half submerged heavily decayed log. Oak or Birch is likely. Red fibrous caps when young growing into large (5") orange caps. Green brusing is noticed on some young fruits. Dark brown brusing otherwise noted. Smell is not distinguishable. Ring or annular zone noticed on most with a heavy deposit of orange spores. Thick, strong but short stipes relative to cap size. Light yellow gills when young becoming orange when older. Heavy spore depositor. The green color seen on some of the older caps is mold.
