Observation 48646: Monotropa uniflora L.

When: 2010-07-14

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Don’t know what MR fungus these are parasitizing though; no fungal fruit bodies were found close to these erumpent new flowers in Zone 48. The nearest fruit body was three minutes away at 6kph — you do the math. It was a Russula brevipes or something very similar.

Seen in the general area in previous years: Russulas, mostly unidentified but also R. brevipes, R. laurocerasi, and R. aeruginea, Lactarius sp., and Amanita sp.
