Observation 48798: Amanita brunnescens G.F. Atk.

When: 2010-07-17

Collection location: Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

A recent post (obs. 48426) shows what is apparently a specimen of brunnescens that shows the stipe base partially enclosed in veil material. My obs here shows what I think is an example of an immature brunnescens with volva like veil material surrounding the base. This material appears to be splitting into what may eventually become the characteristic clefts on the stipe base of the mature mushroom.
