No specimen available

Shelf fungi growing on a birch tree (Betula papyrifera). This birch is, interestingly, fused at the base with a Pinus resinosa, so it’s not entirely impossible the fungus is saprobic on the latter but grew through the former to reach the bark surface to produce a fruit body.

Whitish, fleshy, with off-white, smallish, somewhat irregular pores; 5-6 cm wide and 1 or so thick. In Zone 54.

Species Lists

Looking much rattier on August 14.
