Observation 49371: Entoloma subgenus Leptonia (Fr. : Fr.) Noordel.

When: 2010-07-24

Collection location: Sam Campbell Trail, Oneida Co., Wisconsin, USA [Click for map]

Who: Steve Nelsen (sfnelsen)

No specimen available

No measurements or microscopy on this either, but I am hoping somebody can recognize it from these pictures. I am confident it is an “Entoloma”, but not that it is a Nolanea. (I tried to name it as a “Nolanea sp.”, but that is “depricated”, which I had not expected, because Nolanea is recognized as a genus by M.O.) Lack of agreement on which subgenus to put things in was a major reason that both Smith and Singer tried to get Rhodophyllus approved as a genus many years ago. They failed, allegedly because it was decided that Rhodophyllis was too similar in spelling(!)

I would call this Leptonia, but someone has deprecated that name.
