with Pines along the coast between Salt Point and Mendocino. Yea, they do have a very distinctive color. Some I have found have a deeper orange coloring of the false gills. I guess that is why the pickers call them Rainbow Chanterelles.

These are really strange looking – the stipe is so white and the cap is so pale. Also, they’re rather clean. Were there oaks around? It doesn’t look like there are any oak leaves in the duff…
