Observation 5149: Trametes versicolor (L.) Lloyd

When: 2007-11-19

Collection location: Cabin Cove, Haywood Co., North Carolina, USA [Click for map]

Who: Jason Hollinger (jason)

Specimen available

Notes:
small crowded shelf on dead hardwood logs and standing snags
ST: none
CAP: largest I saw today is 70mm wide, broadly fan-shaped turning into full funnels on top of logs, thin, dry, densly short hairy, conspicuously zoned, various colors but all pastel (eg. bluish, orangish, whitish, brownish, tannish), margin irreg scalloped
FLESH: white, v thin (less than 1mm), tough but flexible even when dry
PORE: creamy white, lighter near margin, 4-5 per mm, not turning into teeth though sometimes a bit irreg, v shallow (less than 1mm)
These are far less common around here, but hardly uncommon. This was just a particularly pretty arrangement.
