3 inches wide, broadly foliar brown, with some bumps, as well as a few small (less than 3mm wide) black areas.
Underside of growing area buff to pinkish. Younger ribs appear pinkish to nearly maroon; gradually becoming ropelike and black in age, as well as producing rhizimes. Some black cilia on right hand of photo.

Recognized by sight: Like a brownish algae on the surface, white underside with extensive reddish ribs underneath, which appear in age to form blackish-colored rhizimes. My thumb in the photo is about 1 inch across the thumbnail: a convenient size comparison, don’t you think?
