Observation 57540: Xylaria polymorpha group J.D. Rogers

Not real certain about the naming. The reference I have is not a good image. I have shown several stages of growth that were available and the larger stems were about 20-25mm in height. All the smaller specimens were just minatures of the more mature fungi. This fungi was definitely growing on wood. Even the specimens on the side of the log were attached to wood of some kind. The last image is not sharp but does give another view of the fungi.

without a host inside rules out Cordyceps and any entomopatheogen right away. These look much more Xylariacious than anything else.
