It seems unlikely that a European name applies to a California Amanita.

The name Agaricus plumbeus as applied to an Amanita is attributed to Schaeffer, the Agaricus plumbeus of Bulliard is a species of Lactarius according to Fraiture’s appendix (e.g.)—-see Amanitopsis d’Europe (Opera Botanica Belgica 5: 125). This is supported by Dr. Bas’ unpublished notes for a nomenclator (history of names and naming) for Amanita.
