Observation 60533: Armillaria (Fr.) Staude

When: 2010-12-09

Collection location: Foster City, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Tom (LanLord)

No specimen available

Notes:
Growing in ground cover plants where (as far as I can remember – 22+ years) there has never been a tree within 30 or so feet.

Can these things grow from wood which has been added to soil (like mulch or bark)?

They can fruit from introduced wood like mulch. I frequently find them in the very finely shredded/chipped dougfir/hemlock mulch.
