Observation 60540: Lepista nuda (Bull.) Cooke

When: 2010-12-05

Collection location: A few km north of Xanthi, Greece [Click for map]

Who: Angelos Papadimitriou (Aggelos(Xanthi))

No specimen available

This is something I had never seen before; a fully developed (not just a deformed, aborted cap) Lepista nuda growing on top of another Lepista nuda! Anybody seen anything like that before?

Lepista nuda does this much more commonly than other species of mushrooms. I have never seen the mushrooms form this well. I usually see it in Russula.
