Observation 6058: Boletus

When: 2008-01-12

Collection location: Pepperwood Preserve, Santa Rosa, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Debbie Drechsler (debdrex)

No specimen available

Notes:
Fruiting under Monterey pine. Flesh of the pileus turns a leisurely blue when broken. Perhaps a minute or two to change? The first day I saw it, I could swear the tubes and the stipe both turned blue when bruised but the next day the bruises were brown. Pileus of the larger one is 6cm wide and the stipe is 1.5cm. A small taste produced a soggy, bland flavor. Blggh.
