Observation 60679: Amanita pachycolea D.E. Stuntz

When: 2010-12-12

Collection location: El Corte De Madera Creek Open Space, San Mateo Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Tom (LanLord)

No specimen available

Seemed to be growing among doug fir.

I realized upon looking at the pics that I didn’t shoot the gills or volva, suffice it to say, gills were whitish, volva was present, but not sac like.

Unfortunately I didn’t get a volva/base picture

And likely won’t as we have some good rains going on now. This is likely not in any condition to shoot any more. If possible I will certainly shoot the base if I am fortunate enough to find another.

The bottom of the stem could be very useful…

The shortness of the marginal striations is a very inteteresting and probably useful character. AND, we need to see the bottom of the stem to assess what is going on with the volva.

Very best,
