Too bad I didn’t know better at the time and didn’t take a photo of the stipe. After years of comparing this mushroom to dozens of other possible matches, I will have to agree with T.atrotomentosa. The only thing that bothered me all this time (and still does) is the size. Authors cap the cap size ;) at 15 cm, where this one was 20+. But I swear I saw other specimen that exceed “supposed” limit.

Well Paxillus and Tapinella are related and used to all be in Paxillus.
