Observation 642: Inocybe lilacina group

When: 2006-09-09

Collection location: Pepperwood Preserve, Santa Rosa, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Darvin DeShazer (darv)

No specimen available

Notes:
This bag of mushrooms was brought to me for identification because a six year old boy ate one (or more) at school on the playground. They were growing near redwood trees. The boy became sick during the night and SOMA was called for a mushroom identification the next day.

Hard to see if this is I. geophylla var. lillacina, but if this this reddish staining is not an optical illusion, we might be looking at I. pudica.
