on base of barberry / soopalallie shrubs (Shepherdia canadensis)

This is very host-species-specific. It is very commonly found with Vulpicida pinastri (as shown here). Look for it at the base of soopalallie where snow lingers long into spring/summer.


Yellow is Vulpicida, brown is C. sepincola, pale gray patch on right is Physcia, greenish on left (and surrounding the Physcia) is Parmeliopsis.
