Observation 64792: Panaeolopsis nirimbii Watling & A.M. Young

When: 2011-03-27

Collection location: Albany BMX track, Albany, Auckland, New Zealand [Click for map]

Who: Michael W (Michael Wallace)

No specimen available

Possibly a mixed collection, these were fruiting within a few meters of each other, some specimens with the margin of the pileus enclosed around the stipe while others are partially open.

These lack pleurocystidia, the spores of the two forms are identical in shape and size as are the cheilocystidia, the enclosed specimens have very few cheilocystidia, the open specimens have abundant cheilocystidia.

I have included two images showing the two forms separated!

After examining and comparing the macroscopic and microscopic characters of this collection with Watling and Young’s description for P. nirimbii I’m certain it’s that species.
