The big fungus is doing fine, with a new hymenial layer covering the scar.

More than a half of this big fungus is gone! I visited the place today and it seems there was a flood there during the week.

at least that’s what everything taller than 15 ft appeared to be. i took some camera phone pictures of the few non-Populus things in the area, none of which reached anything approaching the size or stature of even the smallest black cottonwoods.

it’s worth mentioning that the pore surface bruised brown when handled, which rules out H. annosum, if I’m not mistaken. in cross section, the context was convincingly Ganodermoid; rusty brown, shiny with a leathery, pithy texture and a thin (~2mm) separable tube layer.
