to leave past ID’s even if way off base.

For one, it helps others see how we may arrive at one or another species, and the progression it happened.

Secondly, you when someone is looking up a particular species for an observation they have, and come across the history of the name proposal or happen to read comments, they may see something that is more similar to the specimen they actually have.

Many times I have been led down a totally unrelated genus to find a more accurate identification, only by someone else’s incorrect guess.

I couldn’t find anything that looks like this stuff. Probably gonna check that log out again tomorrow, to see if it changed any. Not expecting much though.
