Found in mid-elevation conifer forest. Appeared cup-shaped from above, but more gomphoid when pulled out of the forest litter. Soft, rubbery consistency.

@Riverdweller, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Using this key, I feel pretty confident that these are Sarcosoma mexicanum (gelatinous interior, >4cm, buried wood & duff, etc).
