I was wondering about that, thanks for the info!

Mixed collections should be split into multiple observations

Mushroom Observer can’t handle complicated hybrid names like “Morchella sp. Boletus rex-veris”. It can only handle one name at a time. But if you try to apply both names to the same observation, only one can win. Thus, the only way to handle images which contain more than one species is to create more than one observation and the “re-use” the same image in each observation, applying a different name to each observation. Does this make sense?

In the meantime, since I can’t really delete names (they immediately grow tendrils interconnecting loads of database tables making it a very difficult surgery to perform), I will deprecate “Morchellus Boletus” and call it “misspelt”, which should have the effect of turning this observation into a morel observation, and suppressing any further mention of the offending name in the rest of the site.
