I found a second collection of this exact species up at Sea Ranch in March 2001(no illustration or photo, tho)…they grew under cypress and were colored exactly like this one, a black cap and banded stipe, even dug fresh out of the ground.

I sent a copy of my illustration of this species to Dave Largent at HSU, and he had never seen this species before. Unfortunately, I wasn’t keeping specimens at that point in time.
