Observation 71271: Lactarius subvernalis Hesler & A.H. Sm.,

Recognized by sight: Wish I had the Bessette book. This off center stalk and reddish instant staining was quite striking. Along with a buff colored cap. Should be something easy to identify! Gills stained rusty red as well. Forgot to taste.

I found a single of what I think was this species yesterday. Staining was quick and I would call the color ochraceous. I probably would call it var. cokeri but that is without really working on them.

Thanks! I didnt arrive at anything use the Kuo key. I see the forked gills now. There is a var. albo-ochraceus that Kuo lists as having more of a red stain, which I think this was leaning towards.
Have you ever seen that color stain?
