Observation 71590: Coprinopsis cinerea (Schaeff.) Redhead et al.
When: 2011-05-10
Collection location: Richmond, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]
Who: ember erebus (ember erebus)
No specimen available
Notes:
I found these growing on a straw bail I had in a garbage bag. I moved them into a terrarium and watched them grow. They grew amazingly fast, from pin to deliquesance in a day. They would grow all the way to the top of the terrarium: a foot tall with tiny caps which would start off white and fluffy, loose their fluff while they were pink, then turn black while they opened like an umbrella. A few days later all that would be left was a black stain on the straw.
