Observation 73061: Peltigera rufescens (Weiss) Humb.

When: 2011-07-09

Collection location: Planalto das Cezaredas, Portugal [Click for map]

Who: zaca

No specimen available

Notes:
Some features of this specimen:
- pale gray thallus when dry (see the photo with the change in color when wetting) with upturned margins exposing the rhizines near the margins;
- minutely felted-tomentose, but not bullate, without isidia or soredia;
- lower surface white-tomentose, with confluent rhizines that are white near the margins and brown further under the lobes; the veins also have this change in color;
- no apothecia was found.

These features match very well with the given in lastdragon for Peltigera rufescens.

The effect of wetting makes the thallus very similar in color to P. neckeri (compare with MO).

Almost two years latter I took new pictures. The bad new is that there are no new specimens.
