Growing on the usual rotting pine log in Zone 05, right near the Zone 05/Zone 07 border (and, therefore, right near the start of the destruction zone).

Sparse; I only saw four or five, all in awkward places to photograph. These two, for instance, down a little crevice in the wood, really gave the autofocus fits.

The fungi in general seem sparse this year, though the chanterelles in Zone 04 were no less abundant than normal. However I’ve seen fewer total observations per trip than usual, and frequently none.

Hopefully that changes when the main fall mushroom season gets underway in a couple of weeks.
