Observation 74588: Xanthoconium separans (Peck) Halling & Both

When: 2011-08-14

Collection location: Gatewood Reservoir, Pulaski Co., Virginia, USA [Click for map]

Who: Mark Prosser (mark prosser)

No specimen available

Any help appreciated. This was a fresh young emerging specimen, possibly 4 inches tall and 3 inches wide, found in mixed oak-hickory/ conifer forest. Wondering if newly emerging Xanthocoium separans have this whitish a color. The caps wrinkled nature reminds me of X. separans, in addition to the nicely reticulated stem.
